In the end, only one was euthanized, another passed away from injuries, and 47 were saved.

Please email me if you want more details.  Because she lives at a doggy day care, she is super dog friendly.   Training?  Yep, she needs it.  But I took her out this past Saturday amongst a gigundous crowd of people biking and running and rollerblading in lower Manhattan, and all she was was friendly.

Fringe's Michael Cerveris: What the dog has taught him

So...no dog content in this entry.  Well, almost.  I went to see Sarah Ruhl's "in the next room, or the vibrator play," which is about a lot of things, but most especially about a doctor in the 1880s, who, like many doctors of the time, used a vibrator to dispel women's lethargy.

I'll probably be writing about this play for a few days. Maddening, wonderful, finally: maddening.  Ruhl's got great ambition, a brilliant voice...and yet..the politics of the play bugged me.

But let me be honest...I went in large part because Michael Cerveris was in it. (Also Quincy Tyler Bernstine, who deserves her own post.)  Cerveris blew me away as Sweeney Todd.  Icy, sexy, relentless, even funny.  How pleased, then, was I to see him as "The Observer" in the Fox show "Fringe."  Creepy, creepy, utterly compelling, and without eyebrows. In real life, the well-eyebrowed Michael Cerveris is devoted to his dog Gibson, who you can hear barking in this interview.

In this interview, he reveals this about the Observer:

I based a lot of the physicality on watching [my dog] Gibson observe things; there’s a slight tilt to the head.

Adorable Dog Adopter of...well, of the Day: Actor Cheyenne Jackson

I don't actually think I need much of an excuse to post a picture of actor/singer Cheyenne Jackson, whom you may have seen steal a chunk of the Tonys when he performed a song from the Broadway show Xanadu, which he stars in.  Even if you remember the movie Xanadu as a big stinking cheesetastic disaster, trust me:  Xanadu the PLAY is something else, in large part to Cheyenne, his witty co-star Kerry Butler, a great rethunk script by Douglas Carter Beane, and a crazy fantastic supporting cast.  But if I needed an excuse, I could tell you that he is currently starring in a limited run of Damn Yankees at New York's City Center--and he, along with stars Jane Krakowski, Sean Hayes, and Randy Graff, are terrific.   And if I needed another excuse, I could tell you that he adopted his dog Zora...and will be at next Saturday's supreme pet adoption/theater event, Broadway Barks. 

But do I really need an excuse?  Just look at them!
