The good news about Gustav is that if you were evacuating, you should have been able to take your pets with you.
The bad news may be that for whatever reason, there weren't enough resources, and you didn't.
So if you have any concern about a pet in the Gustav path, I'd recommend joining Twitter, and "following" Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, which is here: http://twitter.com/BFAS. You can directly message them once you're subscribed. The good thing about Twitter is that you can send messages from your phone...as people have pointed out, people fleeing a hurricane may not have access to a computer, but it is likely that they can get to a cell phone.
Additional, there is a Gustave wiki (editable web page, in nerdspeak) set up, and it has a dedicated animal resources page right here. http://gustavwiki.com/wiki/Animal_Rescue_Resources
If you would like to be a Web 2.0 volunteer, I would go to Beth Kanter's page and learn how you can pitch in.
I don't pray, so I'm just sending everyone in the area good vibes. Let's do this better this time.
