Martha--
My wife does a version of this training demonstration every night with our two dachshunds. It is funny to see their two differing coping mechanisms: the little boy stares intently at the treat which is on the carpet six inches in front of him, while the little girl looks only at my wife, never even glancing at the treat until permission is granted to munch it.
